school. So, Jim took his enjoyment of the outdoors and hard work and turned it into a profession by earning a degree in Landscape Design and Construction from The Ohio State University’s Agricultural Technical Institute. Jim’s right-hand lady, Andrea, is Ohio proud too, although she still maintains some of her British accent despite living here for much of her adult life. When they are not beautifying lawns, landscapes, and properties, Jim and Andrea enjoy spending time with his two daughters, camping, hiking, cheering on the Buckeyes, and completing puzzles.

Our Thinking:

 3 Types of Landscape Firms

There are many landscape companies, but not all are the same. We like to think that there are three types:

1) Full Lifecycle Providers

We, Rockwood Landscape, are a firm that curates and stewards properties through a multi-year perspective. We cultivate healthy, sustainable environments where plants and people flourish.  Our designs include layers to showcase blooming seasons of plants, grasses, foliage, and blooms. We upgrade and revitalize properties

to optimize the environment of the specific to the space. Key questions we ask: What’s the amount of sun, shade, weather?  Our key questions include:  What’s the likely water supply, either natural or irrigation? What are the nearby foliage and their associated lifecycles of blooming, growing, or wilting? And, a dozen other questions of analysis and planning are addressed with our full lifecycle approach.

2) Rip It Out & Build New Firms

These construction firms hire laborers who are solid in destruction and construction. Usually they leverage big equipment to remove and install. While their projects are often nice once installed, it is important to note they are not full lifecycle providers. Some may talk a good talk, but to what extent are they walking the walk?  Rarely are their crews looking at the long term sustainability of their projects, including when incorporating plants, foliage, and seasonal blooms around installed patios, pools, or decks. Leverage these firms for construction, not for holistic care.  Your lawns, beds, plants, and blooms deserve better.

3) Slash & Dash Mowers

These firms work on volume and speed, not quality. Many will offer mulching or other landscape add-ons, but its just that, added services to supplement their core business without dedicated quality, degrees, or specialization. Rockwood Landscape is often asked if we mow, and we are quick to say "we are not slash & dash mowers". We will mow & trim on a regular schedule for home owner associations or businesses that also entrust us with quality care and maintenance of mulch beds, or redesigns of community entrances, common areas, or assets (i.e. patios, gazebo, walk ways, gardens, etc.). Rockwood Landscape cares for quality, healthy outdoor lawn & greenspace, and to be clear: we are not slash & dash mowers.

When looking for a Full Lifecycle Provider to keep your property fresh, healthy, and beautiful, let Rockwood Landscape bring our expertise and work ethic to your earth, stone, blooms, and wood.
